Physical Features

Congo Creek, a narrow and shallow inlet with sunken rocks close to its mouth, discharges at Congo Point at the south end of the beach. The depth along Congo Creek does not exceed 2 m. When open, Congo Creek exhibits some saline stratification in its upper reaches.

General

  • About 2 km2 of wetland adjoins Congo Creek.
  • In some years Congo Creek is commercially fished providing high yields for such a small area.
  • When open to the sea, the entrance area to Congo Creek is popular for swimming.
  • The coastal strip and parts of Congo Creek's catchment are part of Eurobodalla National Park.
  • A small camping/picnic area is adjacent to the entrance on the south side.
