Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 1 July 2008 COMMENCING WATER ALLOCATIONS FOR GROUNDWATER SOURCES IN THE NAMOI AND GWYDIR GROUNDWATER SOURCES The Department of Water and Energy today announced Available Water Determinations for groundwater sources in the state’s North West for the start of the 2008-2009 water year.
An available water determination has been made for categories of access licence for the Water Sharing Plan for the Lower Gwydir Groundwater Source to share the groundwater resources of the Gwydir Valley in a sustainable and equitable manner.
The available water determinations made for the Lower Gwydir Groundwater Source provide a 100 per cent allocation to local water utility and domestic and stock licence holders.
In the Lower Gwydir Groundwater Source, aquifer access licence holders and supplementary water access licence holders will receive a 1 megalitre allocation per share unit.
Supplementary water access licence holders should note that supplementary water allocations in the Lower Gwydir Groundwater Source may be taken at any time and at any rate during the current water year, subject to any restrictions announced by the Minister.
An available water determination has been made for each category of access licence for the Water Sharing Plan for the Upper and Lower Namoi Groundwater Sources to share the groundwater resources of the Namoi Valley in a sustainable and equitable manner.
The available water determinations made for the Upper and Lower Namoi Groundwater Sources provide a 100 per cent allocation to local water utility and domestic and stock licence holders.
In all Upper and Lower Namoi Groundwater Sources, aquifer access licence holders will receive a 1 megalitre allocation per share unit.
In Zone 1 of the Upper Namoi Groundwater Sources, supplementary water access licence holders will receive a 0.88 megalitre allocation per share unit.
In Zones 2, 3, 4 and 8 of the Upper Namoi Groundwater Sources, and the Lower Namoi Groundwater Source supplementary water access licence holders will receive a 0.7 megalitre allocation per share unit.
In Zone 5, 7, 11, and 12 of the Upper Namoi Groundwater Sources, supplementary water access licence holders will receive a 1 megalitre allocation per share unit.
Supplementary water access licence holders should note that supplementary water allocations in the Upper and Lower Namoi Groundwater Sources may be taken at any time and at any rate during the current water year, subject to any restrictions announced by the Minister.
