Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 1 July 2009 COMMENCING WATER ALLOCATIONS FOR THE LOWER MURRAY GROUNDWATER SOURCES The Department of Water and Energy today announced commencing water allocations for groundwater sources across the State, for the new 2009-2010 water year commencing on 1 July 2009. An Available Water Determination (AWD) for each category of access licence for the water sharing plan for the Lower Murray Groundwater Sources has been made to manage and share the groundwater resources of the Basin in a sustainable and equitable manner. The volume per unit share for aquifer access licences authorised to extract water from these groundwater sources will be 1 megalitre. Supplementary water access licence holders will receive a 1 megalitre allocation per share unit. Supplementary water access licence holders are reminded that supplementary water allocations in the Lower Murray Groundwater Sources may be taken at any time and at any rate during the current water year, subject to restrictions announced by the Minister.
