The Murray–Darling Basin Commission
The Murray-Darling Basin Commission (MBDC) is an important partner in natural resource management in NSW.
The Commission is a joint initiative of the NSW, Victorian, Queensland, South Australian, Australian Capital Territory and Commonwealth Governments and gives effect to the 1992 Murray–Darling Basin Agreement. The purpose of the agreement is to promote and encourage the sustainable management of the land and water resources of the Murray-Darling Basin – an area of more than one million square kilometres.
DNR works closely with the MBDC in a number of areas, including the implementation of the Living Murray initiative, the management of the Menindee Lakes system, and environmental watering programs.
