Natural Resources in NSW

Policy framework

New South Wales has led the way for Australia in sustainable and equitable natural resource management over the past decade. The establishment of the Department of Natural Resources in 2005 locked in that progress, establishing an agency totally focused on leading natural resource management.

Two other NSW Government agencies also play a leading role in developing policies to preserve our precious natural resources:

Natural Resources Commission
The Natural Resources Commission (NRC) was established by in 2003 to provide the Government with independent advice on a range of natural resource management issues.

Natural Resources Advisory Council
The Natural Resources Advisory Council of NSW (NRAC) is an independent body reporting to the Minister for Natural Resources and the Rural and Natural Resources Standing Committee of Cabinet. It was established by the New South Wales Government to advise government on natural resources management and land use issues.
