An introduction to vegetation management
In 2005, the NSW Government introduced new laws to end broadscale land clearing across the state. The Department of Natural Resources is the government agency charged with ensuring our native vegetation is protected for future generations.
DNR supports the 13 Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) in the preparation of Property Vegetation Plans (PVPs), which set out how landholders will manage their native vegetation over 15 years. The department's compliance unit is responsible for monitoring land clearing activity across the state, and ensuring that action is taken against serious cases of illegal clearing.
DNR is also the regulatory authority in NSW for the plantation and private native forestry sectors. It is committed to developing a sustainable, profitable timber industry, one which can provide jobs and security for our regional communities.
