Review of the Snowy Hydro water licence

Stage 2 of the review of the Snowy Hydro water licence and proposed licence amendments

A water licence was issued to Snowy Hydro Limited under the Snowy Hydro Corporatisation Act 1997 on 30 May 2002 for a period of 75 years.  An initial five–year review of the licence is required under Clause 25 of the Act. Accordingly, the Water Administration Ministerial Corporation (represented by the NSW Department of Water and Energy) has undertaken a review of the obligations under the licence. 

The Department invited public submissions to assist with review of the licence from 9 December 2007 to the 31 January 2008.  A total of 19 written submissions were received.

The Department is now releasing two reports for public consultation and information.  

The Licence Review Report (PDF xxKB), collates the issues raised in the submissions received, provides responses to issues within the scope of the review, and outlines proposed actions and licence amendments resulting from the review.

The Proposed variations of the Snowy Hydro Limited's water licence (PDF xxKB), collates the proposed licence variations that resulted from the licence review, as well as variations previously agreed to by the NSW, Victorian and Australian Governments, the Murray Darling Basin Commission and Snowy Hydro Limited over the course of the last five years but not yet formally incorporated into the licence. These variations do not affect the environmental flow and other releases or allocations in any way, nor do they change the implementation of the outcomes of the Snowy Inquiry with respect to the licence.

The closing date for written submissions is XX August 2008.
